'It's up to you now': Sheehan quitsSheehan said she had sacrificed a 29-year marriage and endured threats to put all her energy into stopping the war. What she found, she wrote, was a movement "that often puts personal egos above peace and human life."
But she said the most devastating conclusion she had reached "was that Casey did indeed die for nothing ... killed by his own country which is beholden to and run by a war machine that even controls what we think".
"Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives," she wrote. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most."
"I am going to take whatever I have left and go home," Sheehan wrote.

it's not really about what Cindy is going to do but what are we going to do? i've always had a problem with the dems, moveon and other organized peace protest. the local dem clubs kicked us out a year ago because of our impeach tee shirts. sitting through some dem meeting or other i would always think "if i had devoted this much time and energy to painting and posting freewayblogs how much more would i have accomplished versus sitting through this meeting?"

I think this is a symptom of somethign larger. The country is losing hope. Think abou tit, if people felt like they had any chance at all, would we be resorting to homemade signs posted on the side of the road? No. We would be holding those signs at protests attended by thousands of people.
Yea I know the feeling... every time I stand on a street corner with a sign I know I could hang it on a freeway I would reach more than all of us combined.
I think after the Dems caved in to King George II. I & a lot of other ppl feel so betrayed they are just giving up.
It's a numbers game, that's all there is to it. Thanks to the media, Cindy was able to express herself to millions and millions of people. You and me, well... we can only reach a couple hundred thousand. But y'know, if you're clever and a little diligent about it, you can reach a couple hundred thousand people every day. Pretty soon those numbers start to add up.
Do they, though?
She hasgiven a lot for this country, more than most of us whether we be progressive or conservative (or even neocon nuttso)has. But we can't just give up and give in, we must continue to protest in any way we can the corporate governance of this nation. We owe it to the children still living to do so.
